BVI: Regulators encourage risk-based approach to use of third-party introducers
Guidance on mitigating the risks of 'introduced business relationships' has been jointly released by the British Virgin Islands’ (BVI’s) Financial Services Commission and Financial Investigation Agency, to help financial institutions (FIs) and designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs) deal with the risks associated with the engagement of third-party introducers. It stems from the requirements set out in Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendation 17 (reliance on third parties). It stresses that FIs and DNFBPs must comply with reporting obligations outlined in the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Code of Practice; the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations; theRegulatory Code; the Financial Investigation Agency Act; and the Financial Services Commission Act.
