CHARITIES: Dispute between trustees forced Charity Commission intervention
The Charities Commission for England and Wales (Charities Commission) has apologised to some of the former trustees of the Actors' Benevolent Fund after it intervened in a trustee dispute but failed to involve all the past and present trustees from the start. The dispute over how trustees were appointed and removed from the charity's board emerged in February 2022, prompting the Charity Commission to investigate its governance and financial controls and to appoint temporary trustees pending a new election. It has now issued a statement urging all charities to avoid disputed trusteeship by being clear on how to appoint trustees and honorary roles, preferably with regular trustee rotation.
