AUSTRALIA: Beneficial ownership consultation is extended to unlisted companies but not trusts
The Australian treasury has launched a second consultation on plans to implement a public register of company beneficial ownership, this time regarding concerning unlisted companies. It says public access to beneficial ownership information will be initially be limited to journalists, academics, entities with anti-money laundering duties and specified regulators and law enforcement agencies. Trusts are not included at this stage, as beneficial ownership regimes for trusts are still at the early policy development phase.
