BVI: FSC finds AML compliance improved but more work needed
The BVI Financial Services Commission (BVI FSC) has published its 2024 report on the financial sector's compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) obligations. It notes an increased level of compliance, particularly by higher-risk sectors such as trust and company service providers, especially in requirements related to customer due-diligence and beneficial ownership checking. Areas needing improvement included using publicly available information to verify customers' sources of finance and wealth; piecemeal approaches to risk-sensitive or periodic reviews; lack of consideration of trigger events and inconsistent ongoing screening for targeted financial sanctions.
